We all could use a little bit more self-love in our lives, right?
So, in this blog post, I want to share 5 easy self-love exercises that you can start using to transform your life.
Self-love is one of the most important habits to form and, by using these self-love exercises, you’ll be well on your way to living a life you love.
5 Easy Self-Love Exercises
Now, you don’t have to try all of these and this certainly isn’t a comprehensive list.
But, I highly encourage you to give one or more of these self-love exercises a try.
What’s the worst that can happen?
1# Make A Self-Love List
OK. Of all the self-love exercises on this list, this one is my favourite.
Maybe it’s because it’s the first activity that I learned or perhaps it’s just the simplicity of the exercise, but I love it and it’s had a huge impact on my life.
What’s the exercise?
Simply write down 10 things that you genuinely love about yourself every day.
You can do this in the morning, in the evening or any time you just need a “pick-me-up” in the middle of the day.
By simply making a short list of ten things that you love about yourself, you start to tap into your inner love.
And just about anything can go on your self-love list.
You can love your:
- The way you make your bed
- How you always give 110% at work
- And so much more…
Make sure that you really tap into a feeling of true inner love and then write down what you feel.
You can even go into more detail and write about why you love a particular aspect of you.
This exercise alone – when practised frequently – can easily transform your self-love in life.
2# Do Some Fun Exercise
What better way to express love for yourself than taking care of your body?
Now, you might not necessarily think of exercise as something that can be fun and, to a certain extent, I can sympathise with that.
Working out can be really, really boring.
So, how can we make it fun and how can we make it about self-love?
Well, instead of going for a traditional run or doing push-ups and sit-ups, what if you went out and experimented to find what works for you?
Exercising can be fun and exciting when you find something that works for you. I’m talking about the kind of exercise that leaves you feeling a little tired but incredibly alive.
If most workouts are boring for you, try:
- Playing a sport
- Zumba class
There are endless ways to workout and, when you find something that works for you and that you enjoy, stick with it.
For me, my big entry into the world of exercise was playing badminton at university.
I was hooked from day one and have now been playing regularly for the last five years.
It’s fun and it’s good for my body.
What could be better for self-love than that?
3# Indulge A Little
I’m giving you permission to order that pizza, eat that slice of cake and drink a refreshing glass of Coke Zero.
Now, keeping to a healthy diet is a great way to practice self-love. But we can take it a bit too seriously sometimes and stop ourselves from simply eating other foods we might enjoy.
But, it’s OK to treat yourself sometimes.
After all, when you were good as a kid, your parents or caregivers probably bought you chocolate, ice cream or sweets as a reward.
So, why not give yourself a treat?
Take a night off and let yourself indulge.
OK, here’s the deal. Indulging is an amazing way to remind yourself that you love yourself. But it has to be balanced. So, don’t go overboard with it and make sure you always return back to your healthier baseline diet – whatever that might be for you.
And, if you want to enjoy the experience even more, then make sure to slow the process right down.
Take your time chewing and really experience what you’re eating. The longer you can make it last, the better.
4# Take Some “You Time”
I’ve always thought that one of the best ways to show yourself that you care is taking time for yourself.
Whether it’s going for a walk in nature, reading a book or spending time sunbathing, taking “you time” is an amazing expression of self-love.
It doesn’t have to be anything super special.
It can just be 5 minutes in the morning that you spend on your own, doing your own thing.
Or it could be the time before bed, writing in a journal or a diary.
Whatever it is, one of the best self-love exercises I know of is simply taking time for yourself.
Catch up with your thoughts, reassess your life or just spend time sitting in silence.
Just do you.
5# Spend Time With Loved Ones
If the current national lockdown has taught me anything, it’s how much spending time with loved ones can remind you that you are loved.
When you meet up with friends, family or other assorted people in your life who you loved and who love you back, you can easily access a greater sense of love in your life.
After all, if other people can make room in their hearts for you and you can make room in your heart for them, then exercising self-love can be easy.
I highly encourage you to spend as much time with people who loved you as possible.
Even it’s just a phone call, a Skype conversation or a text message, let as much love into your life as you can.
I guarantee that you won’t regret it.
