In today’s blog post, I want to share with you 3 amazing advantages of practising self-love.

Because by making sure that I spend time every day creating more self-love in my life, I’ve been better able to overcome obstacles, beat my anxiety and achieve my goals.

Self-love was a total game-changer for me and I want to share the amazing benefits of self-love for you too!

Isn’t Self-Love A Bad Thing?

Now, you might be thinking “isn’t self-love a bad thing”?

After all, when you think of self-love, you might associate it with vanity, narcissism and selfishness.

But, in reality, self-love is one of the most important human needs and is certainly not an immoral thing to chase.

Self-love is about treating yourself right, holding yourself, your happiness and your future in high enough regard that you want to do the best thing for it.

Self-love comes in all forms and is expressed in many different ways.

It can be expressed through eating healthy because you love your body enough to treat it right.

Or it can be taking time to meditate because you value clearing your mind and letting stress melt away.

However, it’s important to know that if it’s taken too far, it can certainly be the path to dangerous egotism.

But, today I just want to share 3 major benefits of practising self-love.

By developing a daily practice of cultivating self-love, you’ll quickly start to see these benefits in your life.

And, once you start to see the benefits, you’ll never want to stop.

1) Better Decision Making

Practising Self-Love Improves Decision Making

That’s right. Making life decisions from a place of healthy self-love will inevitably lead to better decisions.

Why?

Well, think about it. If you are coming from a place where you don’t care about yourself, then any choice is as good as the other.

If you’re given a choice between a greasy burger and a healthy salad, both choices are more or less equal.

But, if you love yourself (and by extension, your body), then the choice becomes obvious immediately and you eat the salad with a smile on your face.

It can really help to access a sense of self-love when it comes to making any kind of decision.

Whether it’s deciding what to eat, who you want to date or whether or not you should continue in your career, self-love can be a guiding light.

2) More Resilience

Self-Love Boosts Your Resilience

One of the best ways to build resilience in life is through self-care.

And, at the core of self-care, there is self-love.

When you’re facing tough times in life, self-care can guide you into healthy coping behaviours that will help you through whatever is going on.

For example, when I went through a particularly bad break-up a few years ago, my coping strategy was drinking as much alcohol as possible.

I did this because I wanted to forget what was going on and this seemed like the best way.

But, when I started exploring self-care and self-love, I found better, healthier coping strategies.

These coping strategies have helped me in many different situations and scenarios over the last few years.

They’ve helped me get over heartbreak, failure, anxiety and more.

Every time you practice self-love and self-care, you’re teaching your mind and body how to better overcome resilience.

Because the more you practice healthy coping behaviours, the easier they become in your life.

So, if you want to build more resilience to the harshness of life, self-love is the key.

3) Self-Love Opens You Up To More Love

Self-Love = More Love In Your Life

It might sound like a cliché, but true love really does come from within.

When we are in a place of self-loathing or self-hatred, we close ourselves off from the world.

At a certain level, we might even feel like we don’t deserve love from others.

But, this closed-off living only reinforces the lack of love in our lives because we won’t accept love from ourselves or others.

Before transforming my life, I was just a huge, spiky ball of self-loathing.

I didn’t let anyone in and I believed that I didn’t deserve love at all.

This led to a recurring cycle of self-hatred in my life that only grew bigger by the day.

Now, this post isn’t about breaking the loop of self-loathing, though I will write on that subject eventually.

But, the key to overcoming self-loathing was practising self-love daily.

I had to teach myself how to love me all over again.

But, when I really started to get in touch with that inner love, I found more love than ever before.

Because I wasn’t closed off any more, I was able to repair my relationship with my parents and siblings. Plus, I started to make more genuine, close friends.

I found all the love that was missing in my life when I started focusing on loving myself.

Love yourself first and the rest will follow.

There is an unlimited amount of love out there in the world, but you must be open to having it in your life first.

Then and only then will you find an abundance of love in your future.
