Create Your Life Vision
Create A Plan of Action

Step 1) Accept The Possibility of Success
There are so many people out there who want to change, but haven't yet accepted the possibility of success.
For the first few years of my self-improvement journey, I wanted to change - I even knew how. But, I hadn't fully accepted that it was within my power to change my own life.
For anyone in the world who might feel powerless, you should know that you have far more power than you might expect.
Every single one of us has a story of overcoming something we thought would be insurmountable - but we did it.
It could be asking out that guy or girl at work for drinks, going for a job interview or even something as simple as getting out of bed after a long, depressed slump.
You have the power to change your life in both a negative and a positive way every single day.
It doesn't mean you have to take giant leaps.
Sometimes even the smallest step in the right direction can make a huge difference in the end.
So, if you want to change your life in 2020 and starting living the dream, then you first have to accept that it is possible for you to do so.
Step 2) Accept Responsibility For Your Role
So, now that you've accepted that you can in fact create your dream life, we can move on to Step 2: accepting responsibility for your role in creating the results in your life.
Now, there are many out there who will say that you need to take 100% responsibility for your results in life and that's a very naive and ultimately unhelpful approach.
Some things are simply out of our control: the weather, traffic lights, political elections and so on.
Every day, there are external factors that will affect our results in either a positive or a negative way.
You can't be expected to be responsible for them.
However, we have all - in part - created the life that we have right now. We've shaped our lives through decisions, action, inaction and more.
For our own part in creating the lives we have now, we need to take responsibility.
You also need to accept responsibility for your part in creating your future amazing life.
You can't control the future. However, there are two things that you can control:
- How you respond to the unexpected and;
- How you prepare for the expected;
We can always choose how we respond to situations that occur that we didn't expect. These things don't have to completely derail you and your progress. In some circumstances, you can even turn a bad situation to your advantage.
However, above all, preparation is key.
The more you can plan ahead and make plans for how you will overcome obstacles, the more successful you will be.
Example: If you can't get to the gym, then you can have a reserve plan for working out at home, going for a run or doing some other form of exercise.
Don't spend all of your time planning at the expense of action though.
Definitely don't paralyse yourself by trying to predict every last thing that could happen.
Just do enough planning to keep you in peace of mind. But, if you find yourself using planning as an excuse for not taking action, then consider just taking the first steps and seeing how it goes from there.
Step 3) Set Your Intention To Change Your Life
Setting your intention can have a powerful effect on your mindset.
Think about all the times in your life when you've simply decided that you are going to do something and then you've gone and done it.
That's the power of setting a powerful intention.
"I am going to lose that final 5lbs!" or "I am going to ask that guy/girl out!"
When you set a powerful intention, it's like turning on the engine of the car. It's the first step in pursuing your goal of creating your dream life.
Keep your intention with you - whether it just be in your head or written down, always keep your intention close by.
Your intention to succeed will push you forward, even when you lose motivation.
Step 4) Create Your Life Vision
The next step is to completely envision what your dream life would like.
Spend some time physically writing this down (either by hand or on your computer/phone/tablet) so that you don't lose any of the fascinating details that make it all real.
Check out one of my previous videos on how to write an inspiring life vision.
Some questions to ask yourself:
- What would your ideal day look like?
- What would you like to experience/see/feel/etc on a daily basis in your ideal life?
- How will you know when you have achieved your dream life?
- What do you truly value in life?
During this process, I would urge you to look past what I call "vanity goals" e.g. being a millionaire, dating supermodels, driving a Lamborghini, etc.
There's nothing wrong with these goals (in fact, they are probably goals that most people have - even me).
The problem is that they tend to be surface level.
Do you really want to have a million dollars in the bank or do you want the millionaire lifestyle?
It's probably the latter and you definitely don't have to be a millionaire to live it - don't believe me, read the 4 Hour Work Week.
Try and write out your vision in as much detail as possible. Spend some time on this and don't leave until you are completely satisfied.
At this point in time, there's no need to edit your plans at all either. Just let your ideas flow until you have fully developed your life vision and then move on to the next step.
Step 5) Create A Plan of Action
In tomorrow's blog post (which I will link to right here), I break down the entire process of setting personal goals.
However, when it comes to creating a plan of action, it should always be a top-down process from your life vision that answers the question "what would I have to do in Time-frame X to achieve my life vision?"
Note: You should try and give yourself a reasonable time-frame in which to achieve your dream life - it could be 1 year or it could be 10.
Your plan of action will be split into various time-frames, depending on when you would like to achieve your life vision e.g. 10 years, 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, 6 months, 90 days, 1 month, 1 week, today.
So, if you've got your life vision set for 10 years from now, you would be asking, what do I need to do in 10 years to achieve this vision?
Then move to the next timeframe: "What would I have to do in 5 years to support my 10 year plan?", "What would I have to do in 3 years to support my 3 year plan?" and it goes on until you reach today where you start taking action.
Step 6) Start Now. Build Momentum. Follow Through.
The final step is to actually start.
Planning, visualising and wishing will not actually bring your goal any closer to you.
All it does is switch on the car and put it in gear. Now you have to step on the accelerator and steer towards your goals.
No matter what, you have to remember to take action every single day.
Even the smallest step in the right direction is still going to be moving you onward to your dream life. Don't underestimate the power of those tiny steps.
Every action that you take will compound and build momentum towards your goals.
So, start now... build momentum... and, ultimately, follow through on your dreams.
I hope you've found this post useful today.
Remember, there is always some action you can take towards achieving your goals.
Your dream life is possible. You just need to work on it until that dream becomes a reality.
