How many times have you been told that in your life?
Too often, people treat self-belief as if it’s a switch to be flicked, but it’s so much more than that, right?
After all, we all know that we should believe in ourselves.
Especially since learning how to develop belief in yourself is one of the main keys to self-confidence.
So, today I want to share with you how you can truly master self-belief in your life.
Self belief is tremendously important and integral to building healthy self esteem.
Because it is all about learning how to trust yourself and your ability to create positive results and outcomes in your life.
So, in today’s blog post, I’m going to break down 3 things to look out for when you’re working to develop your self-belief.
Then, I’m going to share two simple tips for creating more self-belief in your life.
So, let’s get started.
Why Is It Important To Develop Belief In Yourself?
As we’ve already discovered, self-belief is hugely important for creating healthy self-esteem and high levels of self-confidence.
You see, the more we trust in our ability to create positive outcomes and positive results in our life, the faster our self-esteem can grow.
And in all honesty, if you don't trust yourself to create results and do good things with your life, then you are going to find it difficult to believe in yourself.
This leads to low self-esteem and ultimately, low self-confidence.
Now, if self-belief was as simple as telling you to “#believeinyourself”, then I wouldn’t even be writing this post.
In fact, just saying “believe in yourself” is a pretty pointless statement.
For years, I was just told that I needed to believe in myself.
I was told that I needed to trust in my ability to do great things with my life.
And in all honesty, I just didn't believe that because I didn't have any proof to back it up.
No matter how much I tried to believe in myself, I just didn’t know how to do it.
So, out of pure frustration, I spent time learning about how exactly to build self belief.
And over a long period of time, I was able to get myself to where I am now.
And I'm hoping that by sharing this blog post with you today, that you’ll be able to accelerate your growth towards massive confidence!
So firstly, what are the three things that you need to look out for?
Pitfall #1 – Watch Out For Self-Doubt!
It’s pretty well known that self-doubt can be a complete bitch sometimes!
We’re told that it’s something that should be avoided at all costs.
And here’s the problem with that…
We all have self-doubt and it’s perfectly normal!
To avoid the pitfall of self-doubt then you will need to accept that you are going to doubt yourself from time to time.
And that self doubt is actually perfectly okay.
Not it might surprise people that I would say that self-doubt is a perfectly fine thing to have floating about in your mind, but there's a good reason for it.
Self-Doubt Is Automatic
Firstly, self-doubt is an automatic negative thought (ANT).
We can’t get rid of it any more than we can eliminate feeling happy, horny or histrionic.
So there's no sense in fighting the fact that you are going to have self-doubt.
It's better to just learn how to deal with it.
Self-Doubt Isn’t Always A Bad Thing
And then there's the idea that self doubt is not necessarily a bad thing.
Let's say, for example, that you are running a business and you start to doubt that your sales pitch is going to work on a new client you have to pitch next week.
Because you have doubt in that particular pitch, you then go back through it and you refine it and you make it better.
Self-Doubt Is Fine – In Moderation
Now this isn't to say that you can’t overdo it.
Self-doubt can easily end up ruining things.
But, in moderation you can use that doubt to make sure that you are on the right track.
And then you can use it to improve your position as well.
But the key here is that it should be in moderation.
You're not going to believe in yourself 100% of the time and that is absolutely okay because we're not shooting for perfection here.
We're just shooting for good enough.
Pitfall #2: Watch Out For Instant Gratification!
The second thing is that you should know is not to shoot for immediate results.
You need to learn how to manage your expectations when it comes to your self-belief.
So let's say for example, that you've set yourself a goal to get fit by the end of the year.
You've been eating healthy, going to the gym and getting the right rest.
But, despite all of this work, you're not seeing the progress that you wanted to see.
This can easily make you feel crap about your lack of progress.
After all, the last thing you want to think is that you are failing yourself in some way.
Because that leads right back into this cycle of low self esteem.
But when we learn how to manage our expectations, we can more effectively set goals and actually work towards those targets.
So, if you can learn how to manage your expectations properly and not expect to see immediate results then you are going to be much further on your way to developing self belief.
Because you're not going to feel like so much of a failure if you don't get those results straight away.
On top of that, you'll be building the self discipline to stay with your goals long term.
And that is what generates personal growth and positive results in your life.
Pitfall #3: Watch Out For A Difficult Journey!
There is nothing easy about self-improvement.
Unfortunately, whether that is to do with your finances, your health and fitness, your relationships or anything else, none of it will be easy.
Self-improvement of any kind is fun and rewarding.
However, it is also hard work and you have to do expect that it is going to be very difficult.
There are going to be some days when you're straight up not going to want to do anything.
And that's okay as well.
As long as you get back on the horse and just continue with your goals, it's okay to have an off day.
It's even okay to have an off week or an off month.
But you have to eventually just get back on the horse and start moving forward again.
And just to be clear, you should never see a break or a day off as a failure.
It's just a natural part of the process and you will move past it eventually.
So those are the three pitfalls you need to look out for when learning how to develop self-belief:
- Accept that you're going to feel self doubt some of the time
- Manage your expectations
- And expect the journey to be hard
So let's move into the two things that you can do to start mastering self-belief today!
Tip #1: Accountability
The first thing is making sure that you are holding yourself accountable to your goals.
You have to develop a way to hold yourself accountable to your goals.
Whether that is rewarding yourself by buying yourself something nice, taking yourself out for a nice meal or going to the cinema when you’ve experienced a success, this is going to help to keep you accountable.
Alternatively, you could give yourself forfeits for if you don't reach a goal that was within your grasp.
It should be simple but effective and it should be something that's not going to hurt you.
Instead, it should be something that will probably inconvenience your life in some way.
Something like banning yourself from Netflix for a week.
You don't want to slip into punishment or anything like that because that's not going to help you at all.
That's just going to lead to more low self esteem.
But giving yourself a reason to not make that mistake again is going to help you keep yourself accountable to your goals.
How It Helps Your Self-Belief?
This keeps you focused on your goals and, as we are about to discover, the more goals you can achieve, the more you’ll believe in yourself.
Tip #2: Find Evidence
The second tip is to build your self belief through collecting evidence that you can actually achieve positive things in your life.
And a really good way to do this is to keep a success record.
Regardless of whether it’s a small win or a big win, keep a record of them.
Every single one of them.
Eventually, it’s going to compound and it is going to make you more and more sure that you can achieve things in your life.
And over time that is going to help you to build up that trust that you know what you're doing, that you can generate positive results in your life.
Learning how to develop belief in yourself will never be as easy as just starting to #believe.
Instead, it’s an active process that takes some work.
