You’ve got some amazing dreams about how you could change your life.

You might even have a pretty detailed plan about how you’re going to get there.

But you’re just not motivated enough to do it yet.

Well, if that’s the case, then don’t worry.

In this blog post, I’m going to share with you how to motivate yourself to change your life.

The Problem With Getting Motivated To Change Your Life

So, the main issue when it comes to learning how to motivate yourself to change your life isn’t actually your lack of motivation.

Instead, it’s the idea itself that you have to change your entire life RIGHT NOW!

Because changing your entire life is a huge ask and not at all easy to do.

It would be like sitting an exam on your first day of class.

You won’t be motivated. You’re going to stress yourself out. And you’re probably not even going to achieve what you want to achieve.

Instead, you usually have a few years of classes before your final exams and grading.

That gives you time to put in the work and become the best version of you in whatever area that is.

So, if you go out with the attention of trying to change your entire life right now, you’re going to become overwhelmed.

In fact, this feeling of being overwhelmed is probably why you’re not motivated to begin with.

So, the first step to getting motivated to change your life is to allow yourself the time to do it.

It’s not going to be an overnight thing.

But, once you’ve accepted that, what do you do then?

How To Eat An Elephant

There’s a saying that I love about achieving massive goals (such as changing your life).

“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”

Changing your life is an incremental process.

It’s an elephant that you have to eat one bite at a time.

Coming back to our previous point, you don’t have to go out and conquer the world right now!

In fact, in order to change your life, you only really ever have to do one thing,

And I mean that literally, you just have to do ONE thing at a time.

How To Use Momentum To Get Motivated

Right now, you’re at Point A in your life and you want to get to Point Z.

But, to get there, you have to hit every single step along the way.

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing or what you want to achieve, there are a series of steps that you can take to get there.

So, regardless of if it’s a big step or a small step, you’ve just got to take the next step.

The name of the game in self-improvement is momentum.

And what that means is that you have to take one small step and then the next and the next.

You’ll find that it’s much easier to motivate yourself to take a single step in the right direction than it is to change everything in your life immediately.

And every time you take that small step, you’ve achieved something.

You’ve got a small win.

And all of those small wins will eventually tally up to a big win in the end.

The Best Way To Stop Feeling Overwhelmed

So, if you’re feel overwhelmed by the scope of changing your life, stop immediately.

You need to accept that you can’t change your entire life right now.

So stop.

Take a deep breath.

Think about the steps that you’ll need to take to change your life.

Then just take the next small step.

No massive action.

Just one small step.

In that way, you negate your need for high levels of motivation.

You just have to do the next thing and that’s all.

And, once you’ve taken enough small steps, you’ll have enough momentum behind you to keep pushing you forward.

Just stop, breathe, think of the plan and then take the next step.
